VERDICT: Topaz DeNoise is an effective AI-based tool for removing digital and chromatic picture noise. It may be used offline or as a plug-in in professional picture editors: Photoshop, Lightroom, Photoshop Elements, Serif PhotoPlus, Corel Paintshop Pro and PhotoFXlab.

DeNoise AI examines the whole image and holistically determines the difference between detail and noise in that photo. (Other NR tools only look at pixel-level detail.) After understanding what noise vs detail looks like for that specific image, DeNoise AI recovers a surprising amount of detail from noise. Topaz DeNoise AI is available as a free 30-day version or as a one-time purchase separately or as part of a utility package, starting at $79.99. Like all utilities in the package, the program uses the machine learning algorithm, IntelliNoise, to learn the difference between undesired noise and significant picture details. As you may already know, noise can be a big problem for amateur astrophotography, especially when using a DSLR or mirrorless camera with a high ISO setting. I have personally been battling noise in my astrophotography images for nearly a decade.

Finding a balance between neutralizing noise and maximizing the details of a picture will no longer be a compromise. The program’s intelligent function analyzes and processes the picture, automatically neutralizes digital noise in grainy areas, while preserving details in areas where noise is not a problem.

Complete Topaz DeNoise Review

TopazLabs developers took into account the wishes of photographers and introduced the ability to add presets based on different camera profiles with multiple ISO presets, as well as the ability to neutralize “fast shutter” distractions without ruining the picture.

For graphic design, support for 4K monitors and batch picture editing will surely come in handy.

Aside from noise elimination, Topaz DeNoise copes with such tasks as increasing the clarity and sharpness of the picture, restoring details, shadows, and black levels.

Simple Interface Based on Sliders

This program is supposed to excel at one thing – noise elimination. That is why it has a minimalistic interface, large buttons, settings in the form of sliders, and a massive preview window.

After uploading the picture, users have two main options on the right control panel: use DeNoise AI or the original AI Clear software.

AI Clear is a simplified version with less precise control of noise elimination and sharpness. Topaz DeNoise AI is a more advanced model with different camera presets which lets you better control noise elimination and fine-tune each picture.

Use It Offline or as a Plugin

The majority of professionals use Topaz DeNoise not as a standalone program but as a dedicated tool, a plugin in the primary picture editor. In topaz denoise reviews, many users note that the noise elimination results of this program are better than the integrated functions of Photoshop or Lightroom.

This happens due to an extensive list of presets and settings specific to the camera and ISO combination: indoors, at night, without flash, or in motion.

Besides, using new AI technologies, Topaz provided the program with millions of noise types, grain, and perfectly clear pictures. Then, it used machine learning to identify and neutralize noise.

RAW Format: Convert and Save

Topaz DeNoise supports the majority of picture file formats (JPEG, PNG, TIFF) but doesn’t recognize the RAW file, DNG, CR2, etc.

Topaz DeNoise AI

If you wish to edit RAW files, you will need a more substantial picture editor that supports the RAW format, such as Lightroom or Photoshop, or convert the file using a converter.

But at the last step of editing and saving the picture, it is possible to preserve your original RGB color profile and choose the file format, including the RAW one, which is great for further picture post-production in the appropriate program.

Lost Parts Restoration

Topaz DeNoise can handle extreme cases such as debanding, correcting picture black levels with shadow tone restoration, sharpening of colors and edges, improving sharpness and restoring lost details. This program will certainly make you re-edit all your old pictures that you may have already given up on.

This is especially relevant if you wish to view your old library of digital pictures. All the pictures that you took with a 12-megapixel smartphone camera a few years ago may be enlivened.

Work Faster in One Click

Editing each picture taken in burst mode one by one takes plenty of time. That is why batch picture post-production capabilities have been added to DeNoise AI, and the one-click automatic noise elimination feature is present.

Import multiple pictures or drag and drop them from the Lightroom library for fast batch editing. Apply bulk adjustments to all pictures with a similar scene for quick results. Or select multiple pictures and apply different adjustments to a group of them before completing the batch editing process.

Topaz Denoise Ai Update

Denoise

With all the talk about the new version of Topaz DeNoise AI being amazing at removing noise from pictures, I had to give it a try and see out it compares to my DxO PhotoLab 4 with DeepPRIME noise removal.
So I downloaded the 30 day trial version of Topaz DeNoise. I took a photo in low light at 12,800 ISO with my little Panasonic GX85 MFT camera which is extremely noisy at 12,800 ISO.
For reference, before DxO Photolab 3, I would limit myself to 1600 ISO. With Photolab 3 I could go to 3200 ISO, with Photolab 4 I can now go to 6400 ISO with no problem and even 12,800 ISO with a bit of care in exposing.
The first image is the original, with no processing at all. As you can see, it is very noisy. The second image is with Topaz on auto setting. The third image is with DxO Photolab 4 DeepPRIME noise removal on auto.
This is just one test and I need to do more with various types of images and try tweaking Topaz to get more out of it. But at first glance, DxO is vastly superior to Topaz. It is not only superior at removing noise but perhaps more importantly at preserving detail and colours. As an added bonus, DxO has the best RAW conversion in the business and it processes that file in about 12 seconds on my computer, versus 35 seconds with Topaz. So that’s 3x faster!
